The Position of Politics and Man in the Process of Existence in Suhrawardi's Philosophy

Abstract

Contrary to the common perception that Illuminationist ontology is a closed, pre-given reality, the author of this paper argues that the Illuminationist system is a process whose realization can be explained by the intervention of human relations. The main question of this article is: what is Illuminationist ontology, and what is its relationship with human relations and politics? To answer this question, the author proceeds as follows: first, Suhrawardi’s ontology is explained in both the arc of descent (qaws al-nuzul) and the arc of ascent (qaws al-su'ud). Then, by highlighting the influential role of human relations in the process of returning the "West" of existence to the "East" of Lights, the paper creates the conditions for the entry of the political into the determination of being. Subsequently, by extending the political sphere to the arc of descent, the author links the entire circle of being with politics, establishing an inseparable connection between the process of existential formation and politics. The author uses a descriptive-analytical method in this paper.
